materials & origins

Last updated: 01/10/2026

At thessari, we value transparency regarding the materials we use and how they are produced. This page explains the composition of our products, the origin of the materials, and our commitment to compliance with applicable European legislation.

1. Product Composition

Our products are made using the following materials:

Leather bags and accessories: cowhide leather and suede;

Leather-covered wooden boxes: plywood structure covered in cowhide leather.

The terms “leather” or “hide” are used exclusively for genuine/natural leather products. Where synthetic or imitation materials are used, this is always clearly and unambiguously stated in the product description (e.g. “synthetic leather”, “PU”).

2. Origin of Materials and Components

To ensure full transparency, we provide details on the origin of each main component:

Component Origin
Leather European Union
Zips European Union
Interior material (lining) European Union
Remaining hardware (secondary steel accessories) Outside the European Union (China)
Wood (boxes) [TO BE CONFIRMED]
2.1. Wood

The wood used in our boxes is sourced from [SUPPLIER/REGION] and is subject to procedures for verifying its origin and the legality of forest harvesting, in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 on deforestation-free products (“EUDR”), where applicable and where the origin is outside the EU.

2.2. Leather

The leather used in our products is sourced from European suppliers, with its origin verified through our suppliers.

2.3. Zips

Zips are manufactured by suppliers within the European Union.

2.4. Remaining Hardware

Remaining hardware (secondary metal components, e.g. rivets, fastening rings and buttons) is manufactured by suppliers outside the European Union and is subject to the same quality control and regulatory compliance procedures (e.g. nickel content, where applicable to skin contact, in accordance with the REACH Regulation).

3. Chemical Compliance and Safety

The leather used in our products complies with the limits established by the REACH Regulation (Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006) concerning restricted substances, including hexavalent chromium (Chromium VI), which remains within the legal limits for products intended to come into contact with the skin.

4. Personalised Products

Some of our products may be personalised at the Customer’s request (e.g. engraving of initials or choice of colour). Under Article 17 of Decree-Law No. 24/2014, personalised products are excluded from the 14-day right of withdrawal, as they are made or adapted specifically according to the Customer’s specifications. This exclusion is always clearly stated on the product page and before the order is confirmed.

5. Care and Durability
Leather

Leather is a natural material that develops character and individuality over time. To preserve its beauty and quality, we recommend following a few simple care guidelines.

Protect the piece from water, moisture, prolonged direct exposure to sunlight and sources of heat. Avoid contact with perfumes, cosmetics, oils and other products that may stain or alter the leather.

With use and over time, leather may develop subtle variations in texture, tone, flexibility and appearance. These changes are natural and result from the characteristics of the material, use and the weight carried. Avoid overloading the piece to help preserve its original shape.

When not in use, store the piece in its thessari dust bag, in a cool, dry place protected from direct sunlight. Avoid storing the piece in plastic.

We do not recommend using cleaning products or leather treatments without professional guidance, as different types of leather require specific care.

Wood

The Cássia box is constructed around a rigid plywood structure and covered in leather. The combination of these materials provides strength and stability while maintaining the presence and finish of the piece.

To preserve the box over time, avoid direct exposure to water, excessive moisture, heat and prolonged sunlight. Moisture may affect the wooden structure and, consequently, the leather covering.

Also avoid placing excessive weight on the box or subjecting it to impacts or pressure that could compromise its structure.

For cleaning, use only a soft, dry cloth. Do not apply water, alcohol, chemicals or cleaning products directly to the leather or the structure.
